Progress on 0.1.0

Hello and happy long weekend to our North American friends! We've all been quite busy behind the scenes, from writing scripts for future videos, to getting the new comics out on a regular basis. I wanted to swing in and give a bit of an update on the state of Keeps and its development. We are currently on track to drop Keeps version 0.1.0, which is a proper rework of the game, with all the features of the alpha, but not written over the course of three days!
One of the "features" you may have noticed in the alpha is the collective CLUNK as the game starts. We have assigned a default range of sounds to the collision of marbles, and any marble contact will play a random clip from that range. The CLUNK you experience is that very sound, except its played 20 times, overlaying over each other, as all the marbles spawn randomly on the board and noclip out of each other. This, believe it or not, is a bug, and we knew about it when releasing both the alpha and the gamejam version.
My update to you then is the new spawning algorithm that I have been pondering on as I rework the game from scratch. This one takes into consideration the size of the balls and their proximity, all while guaranteeing an organic spawning pattern. The screenshot above is that new algo in action. That there is 120 marbles, spawned instantly, without colliding with each other! It may not appear a big deal, but as first time game devs, this is quite exciting for us. While we are making this game in Godot, which has support for plugins and extensions, we want to learn as much as we can with this game, and are trying to build everything from scratch, including diffusion spawning, which is what we have achieved here!
